Echoes of Time

Echoes of Time is a collection that depicts derelict places and explores human connection. Once pivotal to our town and the surrounding area, these places now lie abandoned, weathering nature, time, and the human condition.  Still, they remain tied to our community's memories and personal histories.  Inspired by Lee Friedlander’s social landscapes, Matthew Emmett’s abandoned places, and Mark Klett’s composites of past and present, this project has been a journey in itself, evolving through the styles of all three artists as I find my own unique vision and voice.

This lyrical documentary collection tells the story of the passage of time, our connection to place and community, and the people who dwell there.  Places say a lot about us–who we are and where we’ve come from; they become a part of who we are.   Through composite photographs, I connect yesterday's memories to today's deteriorating relics, creating a journey through the past to the present and well into the future.

Echoes of Time aims to remind viewers of the places that have shaped and molded them. More importantly, it aims to remind us of the people in these places who leave an impression that lasts a lifetime.  Final composite photos are printed in a 17x11 landscape orientation to accentuate the connection between time and place, making it possible to feel and experience the journey through the changes and effects of time, environment, and the human condition.
